The Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN), the statewide health information exchange (HIE) for Georgia, awarded a total of $500,000 to its members to hasten the adoption and electronic exchange of health information.
Over the past three years, GaHIN, through its Intermediary Grant Program, has awarded $2.5 million to members. Gretchen Tegethoff, the advocacy chairperson for the Georgia Chapter of HIMSS (GAHIMSS), indicated the chapter’s support for the initiative, “GA HIMSS is pleased to see these resources awarded to GaHIN members and applaud the progress made with provider access and exchange of patient information. Many of our members and the patients they serve benefit from the efforts of GaHIN and we hope to see similar efforts and results in other states.”
The program presents a model example of public (federal/state) and private collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Georgia Department of Community Health to make the funds available to GaHIN to carry out the program. GaHIN supports hospitals, regional HIEs, and both individual physicians and physician groups meet triple aim goals. Facilities awarded during this round were the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Regional Academic Community Health Information Exchange (GRAChIE) and HealtHIE Georgia.
