HIMSS recognized healthcare organizations that were validated in 2023 at Stages 6 and 7 — the highest possible levels of achievement — on the HIMSS maturity models, as well as top-scoring systems on the Digital Health Indicator, during a special Analytics gathering at the 2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition.

The awardees reached these important milestones by leading the global health ecosystem in digital health transformation, including patient centricity, improving interconnected systems, implementing cutting-edge technologies and making the healthcare system better for everyone.

The Digital Health Indicator

The Digital Health Indicator measures how an organization is progressing across four key focus areas of digital health: governance and workforce; interoperability; predictive analytics; and person-enabled health.

Congratulations to the organizations that achieved the highest DHI scores in 2023.

Highest Global DHI Score – China Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan
Second Highest Global DHI Score – Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan
Third Highest Global DHI Score – Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea
Highest DHI Score in North America – Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, U.S.

HIMSS Maturity Models

The HIMSS maturity models provide a roadmap to digital health maturity, offering systems necessary strategy, expertise and planning resources. The eight-stage maturity models support every part of the digital health transformation, including analytics, EMRs, infrastructure and digital imaging, with expert guidance and strategy.

In 2023, more than 70 health systems achieved Stage 6 and 7 validations on four HIMSS maturity models.

The Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) helps systems assess how they're adopting and using EMRs to support patients and clinicians. Insights help deliver personalized care at scale, reduce medication errors, speed up clinical operations and ensure data security.

The Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM) helps measure analytics capabilities and how they’re being used. AMAM insights provide guidance in creating a solid data infrastructure and strategy, managing data assets and improving performance.

The recently modernized Infrastructure Adoption Model (INFRAM) helps improve tech infrastructure to achieve goals while meeting international benchmarks and standards. An in-depth assessment of health infrastructure and a strategic technology plan for specific goals include clinical operations, patient outcomes, data security and more.

On the HIMSS maturity models, Stage 7 is the highest level of achievement. A successful Stage 7 validation confirms an organization has fully implemented and effectively leveraged technologies to improve patient care and achieve meaningful outcomes. The validation signifies a high level of sophistication and maturity in leveraging health information technology to drive improvements in healthcare delivery.

Stage 6 is the second-highest achievement for organizations utilizing the maturity models. Achieving Stage 6 validation is a significant accomplishment for healthcare organizations, as it signifies commitment to leveraging technology to enhance patient care and organizational performance.
