2nd Annual Texas Health Informatics Alliance Conference

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) are pleased to announce the Second Annual Texas Health Informatics Alliance Conference. The conference will be held in person at UTA and hosted by the Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics (MICHI) at UTA. The THIA conference provides an opportunity to share, collaborate and showcase the amazing work in health informatics and features presentations and keynote speakers from across Texas. The theme is “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Accelerate Health.”

Learning Objectives

• Discuss advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the care and treatment of patients. 
• Describe AI and ML solutions to solve complex challenges of obtaining quality healthcare data. 
• Explain distinct ethical considerations that are relevant to AI and ML in healthcare. 
• Identify how to leverage data for healthcare innovation.

The conference features two keynote speakers, presentations, a networking lunch, poster session, and closing reception.

Keynote Speakers

Bryan Vartabedian, MD, FAAP, Director of Community Medicine for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, Texas Children’s Hospital—America’s largest children’s hospital
Dr. Vartabedian will present on the emerging digital culture of medicine and how new media can be leveraged by organizations and individual stakeholders in health care.

Edward H. Shortliffe, MD, PhD, MACP, FACMI, Chair Emeritus & Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and former President & CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association.
Dr. Shortliffe will present on Intelligent Systems in Medicine and Health: The Role of AI.
